Brunei, an independent Muslim community on the north coast of Borneo Island in Southeast Asia. It is bounded on the north by the South China Sea and on all sides by the East Malaysian province of Sarawak, which also divides the country into two disconnected sections of unequal size. The western part is quite large in this respect and contains the capital of Bandar Seri Begawan. Brunei gained independence in 1984, having been a British protectorate since 1888. He is a member of the Commonwealth and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

Brunei has a coastal plain to the north, which gives way to the mountainous hills to the south. The highest point of the country is Pagon Peak (1,850 meters], southeast. Brunei is bordered by the Belait, Tutong, and Brunei rivers in the west and the Pandaruan and Temburong rivers in the east; everything flows mainly north of the South China Sea. It is very hairy and generally unproductive.

Brunei’s small, wealthy economy is a combination of foreign and domestic businesses, state law, social and cultural practices.  Crude oil and natural gas account for about 90% of its GDP.  Nearly 167,000 barrels (26,600 m3) of oil were produced daily, making Brunei the fourth-largest oil producer in Southeast Asia.  It also produces approximately 25.3 million cubic meters (890 x 106 cu ft) of liquefied natural gas per day, making Brunei the ninth-largest producer of material in the world.

The high income from investment overseas adds to the income from domestic production. Most of these investments are made by the Brunei Investment Agency, which is the arm of the Treasury. The government provides all medical services and subsidizes rice and housing.

Brunei relies heavily on imports such as agricultural products (e.g. rice, food products, livestock, etc.),  motorcycles, and electrical products from other countries.  Brunei imports 60% of its dietary needs; of that number, about 75% are from ASEAN countries.
